This workshop focuses on the performance of excerpts from Agostino Steffani’s Stabat Mater, a hidden gem from the Baroque. Topics such as ornamentation, phrasing and expression, style and vocal possibilities in the sacred repertoire of the late Baroque will be explored. Each day will begin with a warm-up of the body, breathing and vocal technique, followed by an interactive talk about the Baroque period. Steffani’s Stabat Mater is set for SSATTB choir and solos. Good reading of music and experience in choral singing is required for all participants. Solos will be distributed throughout the week.
