Musica Affetuosa

1-8 aug
Weeknummer: 556

The core of music is not technique, harmony, or counterpoint, but emotion. Well known as affetti in the baroque era, feelings like love, anger, sadness and joy were expressed in all art forms, including music. We will explore how composers painted emotions in sound. Each day focuses on a musical era (medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic) with some theory and of course a lot of singing! Vocal work includes physical preparation and technical exercises. The goal is to really understand the meaning behind the score. Music is not just ink on paper, it’s someone’s heart and soul put into sounds. Participants need solid music-reading skills and (choral) singing experience.
